Mailchimp Dashboard

This new module allows you to see at a glance the number of subscribers in your list, the last send date and the number of subscribers you have gained/lost since that last send.

It looks like this:

It is a Dashboard module for osCommerce admin, so it installs very easily – simply upload it, turn it on, and insert your parameters (in this case, your Mailchimp API Key and List ID):

Spotlight Special

Super cool idea today from a long-standing osC client. He wanted a way to select a product from his range of products on special offer, and then to “showcase” that chosen product on the front page of his site.

Thankfully this client is pretty up to date so is using the Responsive osCommerce version which has the modular index page. So, making this a stand alone module was a simple affair. Here’s how it turned out;

The first step is, as always, upload the new files using FTP. This does not overwrite anything…now enter admin and;

Choose a Spotlight

Once the spotlight is chosen and the other parameters are set up;

Showing on the front page of the site

Pretty cool!

I made it so that when the box is mouseover’d, the “saving” shows

Let me know your thoughts? This is a pretty cool little module. Of course, you can easily change the look of the spotlight by amending its template file appropriately…it is only limited by your imagination.

Sticky Mini Navbar

I often get inspiration from the most unlikely of sources. Today a spammer signed up at the osCommerce Forum and I followed the link back to his site (which is powered by Magento). One particular part of this guys site stood out for me, and that is a “sticky” navigation bar, which has two main components;

On the left hand side: “Got Questions? Contact Us”
On the right hand side: “X items in cart Checkout”

The reason why I liked this is because it is always in the face of the shopper. A particular problem of Responsive design is to allow a theme to easily be used by a range of devices from tiny phones to large desktops…this sticky navbar solved what I perceive as a problem. Here’s a screenshot of what I’ve come up with:

This navbar stays open all the time even at XS size. This means that it is easy to find at all times for the person who has questions or wants a quick and easy way to checkout (rather than search for the elusive checkout button)…

There are NO CORE CODE CHANGES. Simply upload, go into Admin and install. DONE!

Let me know what you think??

Content Module: Manufacturers Sliding Carousel

The next module on offer is my Manufacturers Sliding Carousel which is Content Module for your homepage. This module takes your manufacturer icons and links them to each manufacturers page.

They are displayed in a sliding carousel, which is set up appropriately for you on initial install – but can be manually changed very easily. The Slider has nav-arrows (if you want them), nav-dots (if you want them), see below:

manfacturer_crawl

There are NO CORE CHANGES – simply upload, go into admin, turn on.

This is a nice way to show manufacturers without taking up too much real estate.

Delivery Date Selector

This one add a delivery date selector into the checkout_success page;

del_date_1

and adds an extra tab onto the admin/orders.php page (which, da da daaa, shows the selected date);

del_date_3

All with ZERO Core Code changes.

Want it?

GOOD FOR: UP TO DATE Edge (has the tabbed orders page built in).
OK FOR: GOLD, Older Edge – but you’ll need to install the tabbed orders page or make some core code adjustments (to be able to see the selected date).

Write A Testimonial

Responsive osCommerce has had Testimonials functionality built in since Gold days. In Edge, that was updated quite significantly. A testimonial is different to a Product Review, as a testimonial is more about the overall experience of using the site and services the shopowner offers.

Let’s make it easier for customer to write a testimonial…

1. New write testimonial page

testimonial_1

which is protected by;

2. An Action Recorder

testimonial_3

along with;

3. A link in the customers account to easily find the page

testimonial_2

All done and completed with zero core code changes. Just upload the new files, turn on the Action Recorder, turn on the Link Module…and that is it. A 30 second upload and installation and no code to change at all!

Popup Shopping Cart in Navbar

How about a Navbar link that when clicked opens up a popup shopping cart?

popup_cart_1

Looks good I think. It’s a very simple install with no Core Code changes, just unzip, upload, go into admin and turn on.

popup_cart_2

It’s pretty much a direct replacement for the standard Cart Navbar Module.

OOS (Out Of Stock) module for product_info

Some shopowners might like to show products that are out of stock, but not have them available to add to cart. This module updates the product_info.php page to enable that.

So, if product_stock is set to zero this is what normally shows:

b4_oos

Buy button exactly as per standard Responsive osC, out of the box. With my new Module, that changes so that it looks like this:

after_oos

Warning Message (in red) can be changed to suit.
Button text and icon can be changed to suit.
Form inputs and buttons are disabled.
Product cannot be added to cart from the product_info page.

What sort of a module is it?

It’s a HT Module.
Upload, go into admin and turn it on.
NO CORE CODE CHANGES!

Order Summary on checkout_success.php

Here’s a nice little module that adds in a very basic “order summary” on the checkout_success.php page. It’s a content module, so is super simple to install, just upload and turn on in admin!

It looks like this:

order_summary

To use this, you’ll need to be on the Responsive version, either Gold or Edge, does not matter. If you have an older version, it is still possible to use this, but would need just a small adjustment in the modules template file.

View Orders – Quick Links

This one adds a list of orders to the “My Orders” portion of account.php – which makes it much easier for your customers to find their previous orders.

NO CORE CODE CHANGES. Upload, Turn On, DONE!

Good for GOLD, Good for EDGE

In an out of the box Responsive osCommerce, that piece of account.php looks like this:

orders_old

With my modification, it now looks like this:

orders_new

Shopowner can also choose to remove the default link “view the orders I have made”…if that makes more sense not to have it, why not remove it?? Shopowner can also choose the number of orders to show.

In the Admin side, it looks like this:

orders_admin

This is a simple installation. Unzip, Upload, Turn On, DONE.
